Hi Everybody,
We’re here and are enjoying our first morning in our “flat”. We just finished breakfast and before we head to the temple we are going to talk to someone about how to do our assignment of working on patron housing.
Yesterday was a bit crazy. We got to Suva around 8:00 and the mission President and his wife picked us up. We then went to their home for breakfast with some of the other senior couples. Everyone is so kind. Then one of the couples, Brother and Sister Hatch, took us to the grocery store. I didn’t have a list so you know I wasn’t prepared. It’s quite different. We might be eating a lot of chicken!  We came home and put the groceries away and then went back to town. We got our phones figured out, bought dad a skirt, me some sandals and went to the open market. Came back, finished putting groceries away and unpacked. We then went to dinner at the temple presidents home and met more people. It was a full day. I’m glad we get to start at the temple today. I’ll be set apart as an ordinance worker for the Fiji temple and dad is going to be a volunteer recorder. It’s beautiful here. The temple is right out our window. President Marcus took some pictures. When we get them I’ll send them to you. I have one at the market and we’ll try to take some today at the temple. I hope you’re all enjoying the beginning of summer. I miss you, but feel at peace with what we’re doing. Bryce, the temple recorder thinks he remembers Jake from when he was a boy. Ask him if he remembers someone with the last name of Gounder.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Thanksgiving is not celebrated here, but that's ok because we have visitors coming on Thursday.  We can't wait!!!!  It's going to be such a wonderful week.   As I wrote last week, we had a cyclone warning.  It didn't hit until Wednesday night.  We didn't really notice it because it was in the middle of the night.  There were pretty high winds and rain, but not too much damage.  By noon, the sun was out and it was a beautiful day.  I don't know if it was because of the storm, but we had the most amazing sunset.  We met an elder getting ready to leave for the Ogden, Utah mission from Fiji.  I hope he makes his way out to Plain City.   We had some missionaries for dinner.  It's so fun to have them.  Such strong boys.  There were three of them because one was leaving in the morning so he was staying with the two others.  On Wednesday, 6 missionaries were heading home-...

Bula! Can't believe another week has already gone by.  It's been a great one.  Still not too busy at the temple, but we just welcomed a group from Kiribiti, so that will make it busier there.  The have brought 2 couples that will be staying for 6 weeks for training so that when their temple opens they can be ready to serve as ordinance workers.   The weather is starting to get warmer.  I think it's just a taste of things to come.  On Saturday we went to the beach at Pacific Harbor.  It was busier than we have ever seen it.  It felt so good to sit in the sun and watch the ocean and the little kids playing in it.  I often wonder if they know how lucky they are to live here.  Sunday we went for a walk along the shoreline at Suva Park.  It was also very crowded.  Lots of families.  Almost every group we walked by wanted us to join them for lunch.  They are such friendly and giving people.  They are ...

Happy October, Wow!  I can't believe it is October.  As Anne of Green Gables said, "I'm glad I live in a world of Octobers."  It is such a beautiful time of year.  We have missed the fall colors. We have had a great week.  The temple is closed for cleaning, so we headed over to another island called Taveuni.  We flew over on a rickety little plane.  It was truly a tropical paradise.  We stayed at a resort where we had our own beach house right on the ocean.  You walked out our door and there was the water.  We even had an outdoor shower.  We hiked to and swam in waterfalls, went on a coastal walk that was beautiful right along the sea, snorkeled at a reef in the the middle of the ocean which felt like we were swimming in an aquarium and stood on the international date line.  What a trip.  The pictures don't do it justice, but it will give you an idea of how beautiful it was.
